An Oscars tradition unlike any other
Just watched A Real Pain last night. Excellent movie.
Unfortunately, I've only seen five others on the list. I guess I'd rank them:
My Old Ass - brilliant and surprisingly moving
Snack Shack - Dazed and Confused for the next generation
A Real Pain - personal, moving, and funny
Rebel Ridge - old fashioned revenge fantasy, well-executed
Hit Man - watched it twice now, and wanted to love it more than I did
Saturday Night - great performances but has really fundamental structural problems
What's crazy is how little money it took to make these films, aside from Dune:
My Old Ass - budget not reported but they sold it for $15M
Snack Shack - $4.5M
A Real Pain - $3M
Rebel Ridge - $41M
Hit Man - $8.8
Saturday Night - $25-30M
I think I saw Dune 2 and Inside Out 2, but honestly barely remember anything about either one.
I think your descriptions of each of these are completely fair. My Old Ass and Snack Shack were maybe the most surprising movies I saw last year.
As sad as this sounds I have seen none of the 25. Only thing close was Deadpool and Wolverine.
